  • New York!

I just wanted to write a quick blog about what I think about New York so far. It's been about 3 days since I've gotten here.

It's smelly and dirty in the subway.
I'm sure anyone in New York knew that. But I was surprised about how SMELLY it was. Nothing can describe the smell of the subway with it's warm steam full of god knows what bathing you when you enter.

    You walk a lot...
New Yorkers are crazy about walking. Especially since we're in Brooklyn it takes an hour to get to the city. Then we walk and walk and got up and down stairs. It's been so bad that my feet are blistered up on Day 2!

New York is the city that never sleeps.
We went to a club and danced until 4 am! That's crazy because in LA doors close at 2 am. It seems there are always people everywhere at every minute of the day.

And on that note...the drinks are weak!
I'm usually a light weight when it comes to getting toasted, usually at my 2 shot/drink. I had 6 drinks and nothing. At the restaurant, bar, and club I drank and there was no buzz. Maybe it was just the locations.

    I miss my car.
I know that everyone takes the subway because it's convenient but  I miss my car. I like being in my own travel bubble that takes me where I want to go and I don't have to wait.  It's comfortable and convenient. I my car.

    Space is limited.
Everywhere you go, you are squeezed into small small locations with a lot of people. I miss having space to move and stand. It's crazy how many people there are in New York. Makes me feel like a country mouse.

It's getting late so I'm going to bed. More thoughts on New York soon.

  • I see you hit all the highlights! hahaahhaah. I lived in Tokyo for a few years, so the smell of the subway or the walking was not a big deal. It something that most older metropolitan cities endure--no urban planning a 100 years ago, so driving is impossible. As for the drinks, maybe you're burning the alcohol away as you dance?

  • yep..sounds like the life of a busy city..sorta like chicago.

  • nyc really is a culture shock from socal, isn't it?  i'm still tripping over the way they don't paint yellow lines on steps to warn people there are steps.  hearing about your trip inspired me to finally put those nyc pics in the album.  i wanna go back again--but not in the summer.  haha  the fall/winter is nice because then the smells aren't as strong.  and we don't have to pack so much clothing becuase no one can tell one day of the trip from the next beucase we're always wearing the same coats/hats/scarves.

  • the nyc album is done!  and seeing the finish product really makes me want to go back again.  then again, i want to redo my hawaii albums, so i might want to go back there again too.

ryc: you know, thenest.com actually is a good resource for bridesmaids and maids of honor.  it also helps if you bride is organized, and your fellow bridesmaids are helpful too.  we're hitting a few snags with one.  i pulled the "known her since 7th grade/maid of honor rank" card on her.  i might be younger than her, but i'm not clueless.

i'm hoping they evict that guy upstairs.  and i'm hoping i don't get myself an even worse neighbor in his place.

  • i wanna go there too!!! one of these days...

ryc: awwww... that's the plan. =)
